The most insightful and the most readable book on procurement I have ever come across.

This is the book I have been searching for. A really fun book about procurement describing how the function works (and why it often fails). Great book for anyone looking to understand complex buying environments and how to build systems to harness procurement mojo.

The book has a strong focus on people as the building blocks of success. And it is full of practical advice delivered in Sigi’s direct style. When explain why you need supply base management, he says: “it will enable you to separate the chicken salad from the chicken sh1t in your supply base”.

If you are passionate about procurement then this book speaks your language. If you are new to it, then this is a crash course in what a procurement org could look like. If you are a CEO, read it and you will understand why you should have your CPO reporting to you.

Most of all, this book is readable. Most books on the subject are dry manuals. This one is a page turner.

This book has been a welcome addition to my Procurement library. It's a very accessible read and has given me a wealth of ideas around how to better engage with my stakeholders and how to articulate and demonstrate the value of the Procurement function within environments where it is perceived as being only a cost-saving or governance role.

In particular, the friendship between Dirk and Al Giordino is well-played throughout the series; they have an easy camaraderie and act like brothers, holding each other accountable and saving each others' lives repeatedly.

Your energy is so important. You have to forget about the words on the script and bring your energy and emotional choice to the page. Actors will see the words on the page and think, Oh I have to punch that word -- that really is an important word! When that choice is made, the scene does not come out right because the actor is forcing a choice, not trusting their emotional choice to carry them through. Think of the famous line Jack Nicholson does in A Few Good Men when he yells, You can t handle the truth! . I would guarantee he was not thinking about punching the word handle or truth ...it just came out through his emotional choice. The words really do not matter it s what you do with them that count. The work has already been done for you by the writer. It is your job to bring those scripted words to life so that your audience (producer, director, casting director or whoever might be in the room) believes you are that character. About the Author
Helen McCready, C.S.A., a Canadian citizen, began working as an actor in 1985 in Vancouver, British Columbia. She started out as an extra on the hit TV show 21 Jump Street, as well as assisted in extra casting at the Denise Love Talent Agency. She moved to Arizona in 1994 where she continued her career working as a casting director assistant. In 1999, Helen launched Helen Wheels Productions, LLC in Arizona. Since then, her company has successfully been expanding into other states and Canada. Now residing in North Hollywood, California, Helen s success as a casting director has continued with projects such as Director Sam Mendes s Away We Go and did some of the additional casting in Nancy Meyer s - Meryl Streep s and Alec Balwdwin s 2010 It s Complicated . In 2010 Helen McCready has been head casting director for a number of films including the soon to be hit Zombie drugs and Suspicion a Thriller/Drama. As well as working on big budget and independent films, Helen has seen the potential of new talent that comes through in exciting productions for the internet known as a web series . She is currently casting two SAG web series one extremely popular and disturbingly interesting, The Resolve , and a brand new project, Writers Block . Upcoming 2011, Helen will take charge of many projects, such as Unrest , a Horror movie, and Margarine Wars , both with massive potential and are already attracting A-lister movie stars. Eight other feature films are scheduled to be cast in 2011not including other feature films that Helen is in talks with . Helen McCready is also Vice President of casting for two other independent production companies. In light of being an accomplished C.S.A Casting Director, Helen has also explored the world of writing and completing projects where she has been credited as writer and producer. Recently, Helen completed a screenplay for a film entitled, Racetrack that is currently in pre-production stage. Racetrack is loosely based on the real life events of her father. Helen will be an executive producer, writer, and casting director for this feature film. Helen has ventured into the world of reality TV and is producing an original concept in a pilot show called Callback . Callback is a reality television comedy show filming actors competing for a supporting role in a feature film. Episodes will involve various challenges and scenarios that professional actors are confronted with every day. Unafraid of change or challenges, Helen has embraced the social networking sites with open arms such as Facebook, Twitter, Linked-In, Meet-Up, Yelp, IndieGoGo, to name a few. With email and the social media, it makes the whole casting process much quicker, simpler, and a fantastic new way to reach out to the talent. Amazing tips every actor should know, but doesn't!

This is an incredibly helpful book, and will increase your bookings. I know....because it increased mine! Helen McCready is a highly successful casting director from Hollywood, working with the top names in the business. I had the great opportunity to take one of her acting workshops, and bought the book then. When I purchased it, I wasn't sure if it would offer any new info that I hadn't heard from other professionals before. Boy, was I wrong! This is filled....FILLED with tips of what casting directors look for, audition tips that are very specific, and ways to increase bookings. I was just cast in a SAG film and give much of the credit to Helen's helpful advice!! I highly recommend this book for ANY actor who would like to improve their success rate! (It's different from most of these type of books, trust me).

Learning to book the job

Very easy read that I couldn't put it down

Very easy read that I couldn't put it down. The book shows the amount of work needed to put this together. Love the footnotes giving all scenarios and why one was selected as part of the Prophet's story. I hope there is a second book picking up where this left off soon.

A Riveting Retelling of the Parables of Abrahimic Faith

“It’s like a giant puzzle, scattered around. And you have to put the puzzle back together.” This is how Sheikh Arastu describes the process of writing the book. Reading through the narrative that he wove from the myriad references of scripture and narration, I was transfixed by the beauty of the parables that he retells. Though I’ve heard bits and pieces of every story throughout my childhood, I have never seen a comprehensive account of the lives of the prophets as related by Islam’s Immaculate guides. Throughout the book, Sheikh Arastu emphasizes on the theological underpinnings that guided his assessment of his sources, as well as the morals and lessons that are derived from each tale. He supplements his writing with discussion of Biblical and archeological narratives of these great men and women of antiquity. All in all, Sheikh Arastu weaves a riveting narrative of these age-old tales that will captivate any reader.
